No horsin' around - our burgers are pure beef

A SOUTHAMPTON butcher has stepped in to save New Forest ponies from ending up in beefburgers.

Uptons of Bassett put a sign outside their shop urging people to buy from the butcher rather than risk eating one of Hampshire’s wild horses.

Upton’s owner, Simon Broadribb, said many of his customers have said they’re worried about what they’re eating now, and last week at least four people returned to them after shopping at supermarkets, because of the ongoing horse meat scandal.

He said: “We know where each cut of meat comes from – the farmer, the breed, everything, and try to buy from within Hampshire or on the Hampshire borders.

“People should find out the provenance of what they’re buying so they know exactly what it is.”

I wouldn't eat anything from in there, I went to collect a take away from one of the other shops along there and saw rats by the bins....I'm glad I didn't pay over the phone because I got back in the car and went elsewhere!

What has rats by a takeaways bins got to do with the butchers shop. Sounds like someone has a bit of an axe to grind ? I dont suppose you took the trouble to call the council so they could force the area to be cleaned up ?

Errr, what has this to do with New Forest ponies? Have i missed something? I was expecting to see a guy who had launched some big initiative and I didn't realise all this horse meat was coming from the new Forest.
