AWE backs young people in industryTHE Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) is showing its support for young people in industry by joining The 5% Club.

The nuclear weapons facility, in Aldermaston, is one of the first organisations to join the national initiative aimed at addressing the skills shortage.

The 5% Club is an industry-wide pledge to commit five per cent of a company’s workforce to apprenticeships, student or graduate training programmes.

AWE’s director of human resources Shan Martin, pictured, said the signing of the charter illustrates the company’s continued contribution to ensuring that the UK retains its reputation for innovation and addresses the problem of youth unemployment.

She said: “AWE recognises the need to develop a skilled and diverse workforce for the future.

“We are proud to be one of the first to sign up to The 5% Club, and look forward to supporting this industry-wide initiative in the months and years to come.”
