A MAP of the Selby area which is more than 120 years old will go on display this week.

Members of Eggborough Methodist Hall have rediscovered a very large Ordnance Survey map which dates back to the 1880s, measures seven feet by nine feet, and includes the villages of Eggborough, Hensall, Whitley, Cridling Stubbs, Heck, Chapel and West Haddlesey, Hirst Courtney and Temple Hirst and part of Kellington.

The map was first found more than twenty years ago when the boiler room was renovated, then taken home by a chapel member and forgotten.

Chapel members have recently been researching the history of the building, and now plan to havethe map restored, framed and put on display in the chapel when they create a heritage room.

The map will be on show at the chapel from 11am today, and chapel members hope it will appeal to local historians and history enthusiasts.
