Dairy Crest to close its Basingstoke depot this Friday
DAIRY Crest in Basingstoke is set to close tomorrow.
The business currently operating out of Pelton Road, will transfer to depots in Camberley, Salisbury and Reading.
According to the company, these locations will be able to offer more facilities to its transferring employees and franchise customers.
The decision follows a review of the company’s depot network costs in Hampshire.
External communications and publics affairs manager Olivia Seccombe, said: “We will work with our depot teams, to ensure our high levels of service to our residential and business customers are maintained in the future and we will make the transition for all those affected, as smooth as possible.
“Regrettably, this closure may result in a small number of redundancies; however every effort will be made to secure alternative employment at other depots.
“We will be entering into immediate consultation with our affected employees and their representatives and will provide a high level of HR support to meet their needs.”
Dairy Crest, which is the UK’s only listed dairy company and one of the big three milk suppliers in the country, has recently reported a one per cent increase in sales along with a return to bottom-line profitability following a year of consolidation.
This has seen the company reorganise its business structure, cutting costs by £25million.
Adjusted pre-tax profits are up year on year by 31 per cent at £65.3m, helped by property sales, in the year to March 31.
Its overall profits was £48m compared to the loss of £7.9m in 2012/2013.
