BASINGSTOKE businesses are heading into election year with a lower level of confidence than the UK as a whole.

That is according to according to the yearly business confidence report from global-flexible workspace provider Regus, based at Chineham Park, Basingstoke

Based on the views of local business owners and senior managers, the ninth edition of the Regus Business Confidence Index (BCI) reveals a four point gap between Basingstoke (120) and the UK average (124). Nevertheless, the report reveals that 61 per cent of Basingstoke businesses saw an increase in revenues in the last 12 months, and 57 per saw an increase in profits.

The report also showed that over a quarter of Basingstoke businesses (26%) increased their flexible working options for staff over the past twelve months. Richard Morris, UK CEO at Regus, said: “Although businesses in Basingtoke are more cautious than those in other parts of the UK, the number of businesses reporting higher revenues and profits is encouraging.

“Flexible ways of working – particularly in relation to the physical workspace – are playing a significant role in the town’s growth story.

“Companies are managing growth carefully, with many recognising that full-time, permanent office space with its associated long-term leasing is no longer the only option. Remaining agile helps business secure and retain top talent, and keeping overheads low is vital to sustainable business growth.”
