A NEW boutique shop has had people’s heads turning with intrigue.

Teapot and Tutus recently signed a three-year lease on the site in Spring Road, Merryoak, Southampton.

In the first two months the store has been open, people living in the area have been intrigued as to what the store offers.

The business is the merging of two older businesses providing handcrafted items, being sold alongside a range of light refreshments and cupcakes.

Co-owner of the business Natalie Compton said since they opened people have been popping their heads in to see what they offer.

She said: “We always see people slowly walk past the shop peering in to see what we sell.

“Even though we have only been here for four weeks, The Spring Road location seems ideal for the type of clientele we hope to appeal to.

“Now we just need to come up with an advertising strategy and really push things forward.”

Acting on behalf of a private landlord, the site has been rented out by letting agent Goadsby Commercial.

The lease will generate £5,750 per year for the landlord, in an area where retail premises have seen an increase.

Daniel Rawlings of Goadsby’s said: “We are delighted to have secured a tenant for our clients so soon after marketing the premises.

“We received significant interest in this retail unit, highlighting the growing popularity of neighbourhood parades such as this.”

Natalie runs Teapots and Tutus with co-owner Rebecca Harbach, who oversees the cupcake side of the business.

As well as the day-to-day running of the business, the pair look to introduce classes in store, giving customers the tips they need to be crafty and creative.

Natalie said: “We have had a few people enquire about the classes we are looking to run.

“I will be running sewing and craft classes, while Rebecca already has a lot of clients who come and see her for cupcake decorating classes.

“Now we have our own venue we can work out of, and We hope that people who attend the classes will also pick something up in store.”
