SEVENTY new jobs will be created in the South by companies specialising in generating green energy.

Staff will be constructing blades for wind turbines for the MHI Vestas Offshore Wind project – a joint venture between Vestas Technology UK Ltd and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI).

They will be working at a turbine production facility on the Isle of Wight.

Danish wind turbine producer Vestas Wind Systems and Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi Heavy Industries agreed to form a joint venture in 2014 in aims of gaining a strong position in the market for offshore wind turbines.

The blades will be used for a number of high profile national projects – including the Burbo Bank Extension in Liverpool Bay.

MHI chief executive Jens Tommerup said the project was a “win-win" scenario for both the UK jobs market and the country’s industry.
