PLANS for a new science park in Hampshire have been unveiled.
The proposed new development at Hoeford Point near Gosport would consist of four new three-storey buildings alongside their existing headquarters that will total more than 60,000 sq ft.
Half is expected to be used for office space half for laboratories.
In addition, the development will also include 222 car parking spaces and 74 cycle spaces.
Developers Wickham Laboratories are a contract analytical testing laboratory supplying the food, healthcare, medical device and pharmaceutical industries.
In a statement, Wickham Laboratories said: “The site at Gosport, offers an opportunity to encourage and develop like-minded research and development businesses alongside their headquarters’ building.”
“The site has great potential, within the Hoeford Point industrial centre to house new units specifically targeted at the research and development business sector.”
The new park is expected to attract businesses involved in
research in the bioscience,
healthcare, and food security sectors.
Councillor Sean Woodward, leader of Fareham Borough Council said: “While unemployment among Gosport residents of working age is very low over half of them need to leave the Gosport peninsula to get to work which contributes significantly to traffic issues.
“To have a new business park in Gosport will be a very important addition to the employment offer on the peninsular which can only be good news should it receive planning consent from Gosport Borough Council.”
Wickham Laboratories, which employs 100 employees moved its HQ from Wickham to Hoeford Point in June 2011.
The plans, which were submitted to Gosport Borough council oare expected to be decided in the coming weeks.
