Hans Van Well, a member of Andover's Mutual Business Group, gave a refresher course on the art of networking.

He told members that in simple terms it was putting people together, suggesting that everyone knew at least one millionaire personally and, perhaps, with current house values, might be one themselves - but don't think of themselves as rich.

But the really rich, the multi-millionaires, have of-ten achieved their success through simply knowing the right people, and by being in the right place at the right time.

How could members make sure of managing that?

By making wherever they were the right place'.

Most members had probably avoided something that was too difficult.

But by never saying no' - at least not to start with! - and by stepping outside of comfort zones members could become the people others went to with ideas.

Illustrating this, Hans and a colleague were asked by a contact, who is friendly with the Prime Minister of a European state, if they knew of anybody who would like to buy large quantities of cement.

Hans told members he did not say no, but instead said he'd make inquiries.

This has led to them being asked to investigate procuring an amazing range of items for the state concerned which, if Hans's contacts - and their contacts - can provide answers, could result in healthy commission payments.
