AFTER three decades, an Andover market trader has left the weekly market and set up a permanent place of business in Waterloo Court.

David Mellor and Sons was officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley with a champagne reception.

It took two years for Mr Mellor, who believes he's Andover's longest trading market jeweller, to open the doors to his new premises.

He also has shops in Eastleigh and Totton. He has plans to introduce an onsite goldsmith to carry out work in the Andover branch, as soon as possible.

He is delighted to finally have a permanent place in Andover to sell his jewellery.

"I left the market with a heavy heart but I'm thrilled we have finally got a proper shop site in Andover and we aren't leaving our customers," he said.

"And I'm over the moon that we've finally got a place where we don't have to sell while getting wet and cold."

The mayor wished Mr Mellor and his family success.

"I hope it will be a fantastic success," he said.
