Pajama Game rehearsals

10:08am Wednesday 1st October 2008

ANDOVER Music and Operatic Society (AMOS) are hitting all the right notes as they reach the final stages of rehearsals for their latest show The Pajama Game.

The Pajama Game is a musical based on the novel Seven and a Half Cents by Richard Bissell.

The story deals with labour troubles in a pajama' factory, where worker demands for a seven and a half cent rise are going unheeded.

In the midst of all that, love blossoms between Babe (Catherine) Williams, the leader of the Union Grievance Committee, and Sid, the new factory superintendent.

The latest show for the team brings forward another debut lead role for Tracey Fryer from Andover playing the part of Babe.

James Quinn will follow up his lead in the last show Thoroughly Modern Millie as Babe's boss and love interest Sid Sorokin. Tracey, who's been a member of AMOS for 10 years, said of her debut role: "I'm scared but extremely excited.

"It's all getting very close now but it's going to be great fun because we're a team and that's how we work on and off stage.

"Everyone is being very supportive, with top tips coming from all directions."

The show has been put together in half the usual time, with only 26 rehearsals before the opening night.

Director Claire Nias said: "I am confident they are going to do really well.

"Millie (the groups last show Thoroughly Modern Millie) was a little bit later, so we lost about two weeks, and in total we've lost a month "But, everyone has thrown themselves into it."

The Pajama Game starts at The Lights on 8 October and runs until 11 October.
