Cycle strategy ready for public comment

A REVISED draft cycle strategy for Test Valley is to go out for public consultation.

Members of Test Valley Borough Council's executive heard the original strategy was published in 2003. Since then progress has been made in implementing the network. But a report said it was necessary to update the document to take into account the current situation'.

The new draft strategy shows those routes that are in place, those that have been amended, with some more routes considered important.

"The creation of a more attractive environment for cyclists will require significant resources to be identified and secured," the report said.

"The principal sources of funding will be contributions from the private sector in association with development and, potentially, from the council's own capital programme and the county council's local transport plan."

In Andover the plan is to create a central loop around the town centre for cyclists, which has been partly implemented. The aim is to provide new and improve existing crossings to link new and existing residential areas to key destinations; tackle safety concerns and provide more secure cycle parking.
