Howzat for a housing site?

PART of Andover's sporting heritage could be lost to development if borough councillors back a plan to relocate Andover Cricket Club to Foxcotte on the edge of Charlton.

The cricket ground has been at London Road since the 1920s but could now be considered a prime area for development.

Andover Cricket Club declined to make any official comment until the council has made a decision.

However the plan is thought to have their broad support because it could mean much more room, improved security and better facilities although some loss of community contact.

Test Valley Borough Council owns the freehold of the site, which is on a long lease to the club.

Members of the council's cabinet were due to discuss the matter tonight.

The nine-page report on the proposal drawn up by the estates department has not been made public and the item is due to be discussed after the public has been excluded.
