HARROWAY ward councillor Brian Page was elected the new Mayor of Test Valley during the annual mayor-making ceremony at the Guildhall in Andover.

The new mayor was nominated by Cllr Jim Neal and seconded by Cllr Peter Boulton at the ceremony on Wednesday.

In accepting his role Mr Page said: "In the past year we have been in contact with so many volunteers and carers in our borough community and seen so many good news stories.

"During our own mayoral year we want to concentrate on bringing hope, love, care and support to others in the community and especially those who are most vulnerable and in need."

His chosen charities for the mayoral year are the Romsey Opportunity Group, The Countess of Brecknock Hospice and Andover Shopmobility.

Mr Page added: "With the aid of my charity committee I also plan to raise subsidiary funds for other charitable organisations which I will select from our contacts during the year."

Cllr Marion Kerley praised the former mayor Pam Mutton's efforts during her year: "Pam has the knack of adapting to any situation that she is presented with, in her own inimitable way."

The new deputy mayor will be Romsey Extra ward Cllr Ian Hibberd.

Speaking about the new deputy mayor Mrs Kerley said: "Ian will bring to the office of deputy mayor excellent qualities and considerable experience that will allow him to fit ideally into the role of deputy mayor."

A very big thank you must go out to former Mayor Pam Mutton, She did a very good Job.
Also to Pam's charity committee, they did an outstanding job at raising money for her charitys

Let us all hope that the same support is shown to Mayor Brian Page.
