WAGGY tails and wet noses took centre stage at a day of events celebrating man's best friend on Saturday.

A Dog Fun Day organised by Test Valley Borough Council gave owners a chance to find out more about their four-legged companions at the Phoenix Centre.

Prospective owners and doggy devotees were able to speak to representatives from the RSPCA and the Dog's Trust mobile re-homing unit, and got expert advice on how to feed dogs healthily and encourage good behaviour, as well as tips on good grooming and micro-chipping.

The event also hosted a have a go' agility course and a canine treasure hunt.

A traditional fete with a coconut shy, candyfloss and a book stall gave Andover Day Services a £1,060 boost on Saturday.

Held at the group's East Portway base, the event was held to raise cash to update and improve its sensory room.

After taking in the stalls selling crafts, bric-a-brac and cakes, visitors could relax by getting a foot massage or learning about aromatherapy.

Manager Tracey Carus said: "We did very well to raise that amount. The money will hopefully help us bring the sensory room up-to-date."

Children in each year class chose a country to support and took part in an Olympic-style parade dressed appropriately as they entered the main display ring.

Year 1 had expert coaching from Jamaican Cherrie Mills who had treated them to some genuine Caribbean dishes and led them into the parade ring where they sang Yellow Bird'.
