NEARLY two years after a campaign was launched to save Andover's Lower Guildhall from commercial use, the issue continues to rumble on.

Just over three weeks ago the Italian restaurant chain Prezzo finally submitted a planning application to convert the lower part of the historic Guildhall after months of speculation.

But it could not be formally registered because there was extra information which Test Valley Borough Council needed to glean from the restaurant chain.

This week a spokeswoman for the borough council said that Prezzo had not so far responded with the required information, so a date for a planning meeting could not be set.

In the meantime the Lower Guildhall remains dark and unused while former users, like PHAB, have moved to their new home, the Rendezvous in Union Street.

I do hope that the ground floor area of the Guidhall is not turned into an italian restaurant. it should be used as a market etc - retaining its historical links!

yes! what a great idea valerie! lets waste the Guildhalls' emptiness by filling it with a market twice a week, while the rest of the week its in total darkness. My god, where do people get these ideas from??? ridiculous. lets hope prezzo or some form of business takes over as soon as possible, because its being wasted sitting there empty. hey! i got an idea valerie! lets use it as a polling station too!! thats twice a year in full use! (sarcasm)

what also gets me, is that people sit on their backsides saying nothing about our town having 6 coffee shops, 5 betting outlets, countless phone shops etc..this town is going nowhere!
