ANDOVER Territorial Army soldier Harry Philby has been awarded his Operation Herrick medal following his tour of Afghanistan last year.

Private Philby, 24, serves with Farnhambased A Company, 3Bn, The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (3 PWRR) and was presented with his medal by the Mayor of Farnham Councillor Stephen Hill at a special ceremony held at the TA Centre in Guildford Road.

Private Philby has served with A Company for two and half years and is a builder. A former pupil at Millfield, this was his first tour of Afghanistan where he was attached to the Queen’s Royal Hussars.

Also, a new award for Best Recruit created in memory of former soldier Lance Corporal Lee Fisher, who served with A Company and died last year, was presented to Private Darren Cameron, 25, from Basingstoke.

In addition, eight soldiers from the company were presented with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal which was specially created this year and given to all reservists who have served more than five years in the reserve forces.

3 PWRR is the Territorial Army battalion of The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, the infantry regiment for the south-east of England which is known as “The Tigers”.
