THE sixtieth anniversary ploughing match of the Stockbridge Growmore Club saw 44 ploughmen compete in six classes to determine the champion for conventional and reversible ploughing.
Held just outside Stockbridge on the Somborne Estate conditions despite a cold wind proved ideal despite the recent rains.
This year, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the Stockbridge Club, two special awards were presented by Waitrose and Fencing and Construction Training Ltd.
Other class sponsors included Dance’s Transport from Stockbridge, ToyTrac, Oakes Bros and Roger Hunt Ltd.
This year’s Champion Conventional ploughman and Waitrose Award winner was Geoff Smith from Leckford while the Reversible Champion and FaCT award winner was Bob Warwick from Fullerton. Derek Allen from Sutton Scotney took the Vintage Ploughing Championship.
Tony Atkinson from Chilbolton won first in his class.
