Ignoring the downturn with £1.5m investment

ABACUS Vehicle Hire has announced the next phase of its £1.5million business expansion at its Andover centre.

The company has purchased 1.1 acres of land on Weyhill Road, Andover enabling the growth of its hire and servicing site.

The centre opened in January 2012 and provides car, van, truck, minibus and motorhome hire just off the A303.

Managing director Dave Wolfenden said: “The timing is perfect. This year we have been able to cautiously expand the business, creating four jobs as we have become more established and as the customer base has grown.

“We hope to complete the last phase of our £1.5million investment for the site next year after planning approval.”

From Dorset, Abacus and its sister company Horton Commercials launched in 1985 and employs a team of 45 to provide a full range of vehicle hire with a current fleet of 650 vehicles, also offering specialist vehicle servicing, bodybuilding and repair facilities.

In 2006 the company opened its motorhome hire division with a dedicated motorhome centre opening last year.

Some good news and not politician in sight claiming it was of their doing! Let's hope it also means a couple more jobs for some local people.
