AS-LEVEL English language students from Andover College have been busy sharing their views and opinions live on national television.

The students formed the studio audience for Channel 5’s The Wright Stuff when host Matthew Wright was joined by comedian Lee Hurst, TV personality Lowri Turner and Olympic judoist and Celebrity Big Brother finalist Ashley McKenzie to debate a number of topics, including racism in football, nicknames that lead to bullying and whether London should hold a second Olympics in the next 20 years.

English language lecturer Rob Price said: “As part of their studies, AS-level English language students are required to analyse a number of interesting topics which fortuitously linked well to the content of show.

“Students examine spoken language features for their final examination, therefore seeing how presenter Matthew Wright guided the celebrity panel through the show’s topics was particularly interesting for them.

“For their coursework, students have to discuss the representation of people or events in society, with many looking into the 2012 London Olympics, something this show also discussed in a good level of detail.”

Following the broadcast the students also had the opportunity to chat with the production team, and to meet and chat to hosts Eric Johnson and Matthew Wright.
