GROUND water levels on Salisbury Plain are high says the Environment Agency and a flood alert is in force. The highest response has been seen in the western half of the area, especially around the Tilshead borehole. The current level at Tilshead is 98m above sea level.

A spokesman for the organisation said: “We expect flooding in the Tilshead area, in particular the villages of Tilshead, Orcheston and Shrewton.

“Flooding may affect properties and roads for at least several days. “Forecast low overnight temperatures may mean that driving conditions could be treacherous.

“We are monitoring groundwater levels on at minimum of a daily basis. “The groundwater alert messages on the internet will be updated daily. We are also talking to our local authority partners to ensure that they are aware of the situation.”
