POLICE are appealing for public help after lead thieves were discovered at work at a house in Andover’s Highlands Road.

The incident took place just after 9.30pm on Saturday (15). The victim disturbed two offenders in the alley at the side of his house who were in the process of trying to steal lead strips from the roof. They then fled the scene.

Once they had gone the victim discovered several feet of lead strip had been taken. The offenders are described as two white males, one wearing a red coat and one wearing a dark top.

PC Paddy Coveney, said: “I would like to hear from anyone with information that could help identify the offenders or lead to the recovery of the lead. “Enquiries so far indicate that the two offenders may have been in the area from as early as 6pm that evening. “Whilst the area was not particularly busy, we know that a number of people walk dogs and run nearby and it is possible they may have seen something. “I would urge anyone with any information or anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area during the evening of 15 December to come forward and speak to us.”

Anyone with any information should contact police at PC Coveney at Andover police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
