THE Andover Advertiser has been briefed about workers from the Environment Agency who are due in St Mary Bourne tomorrow to undertake urgent flood defence work.

The team will be erecting ‘demountable defences’ to help protect homes in the village from flooding as the Bourne Rivulet is rising.

According to the EA the river level has risen by 2 inches in the last two days – forced up by pressure of the chalk fed ground-water.

With rain and possible snow expected over the weekend the EA say they have taken the decision to act as a precaution.

The defences are designed to protect between 20 to 30 homes.
