A PLANNING application for an extension to provide a dining room, kitchen and laundry at Five Bells in Tangley has been turned down because of the potential impact on bats.
Planners at Test Valley Borough Council say that the building has significant potential to support bats and these are protected under British and EU law.
They add that further investigation is necessary to allow an assessment of the numbers that might be using the location as a roost.
