THOUSANDS of pounds worth of lead was stolen from a church’s roof in Nether Wallop.

The incident took place at some time between 8.30pm on Friday, 8 February and 8.30am on Saturday, 9 February when approximately two tonnes of lead, valued at £2,500, was stolen from the roof of St Andrews Church, in Church Road.

Pc Simon Beecroft said: “The offenders drove a vehicle along the path up to the front of the church and must have spent sometime removing the lead.

“Were you in the area? Did you see anyone acting suspiciously around the church or have you seen anyone with a large amount of lead either on a lorry or in a van?

“I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should contact Pc Beecroft at Stockbridge police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
