Guilt over not speaking out
A woman who was sexually abused as a child has described her guilt at not telling police sooner.
Raymond Terry, 62, went on to commit offences with two more girls after subjecting the woman, who was eight at the time, to around two months of sexual abuse.
Terry, formerly of Coxford Road, Southampton, was convicted in 2011 and is serving eight years for sexual offences relating to the other two children.
He has pleaded guilty to a further charge of committing acts of gross indecency with a child at Winchester Crown Court.
Prosecutor Dawn Hyland said that the woman had found the courage to come forward about the offences, which happened more than two decades ago, after seeing he had been jailed for similar crimes. She said the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, told police in an interview how she had suffered from depression and a desire to self-harm since the abuse.
Terry was sentenced to a further 18 months in jail.
