THE Andover and District Lions club has raised £500 for charity by holding a Pig Race Night.

Twice a year the group holds evenings where mechanical toy pigs are raced, with bets placed on which will win.

The light-hearted evenings are well supported and help to generate muchneeded funds for worthy causes in Andover.

The most recent event was to support the Macular Society, a national charity which is based in Andover and has an affiliated support group in the town.

Martin Benet, Andover Lions president, said: “We organise two Pig Race Nights each year to raise money for charity. They prove to be very popular.

“It seemed natural to support the Macular Society, as we always choose a charity based in Andover.”

The Andover and District Lions Club meets at the Wyke Down Country Pub, Picket Piece, Andover, on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 8pm.
