A PARTY in Tidworth got out of hand after 200 youngsters turned up when it was posted on Facebook.

The Saturday night party was for a 14-year-old girl but organisers decided to cancel the event at 8.30pm after people travelled as far as Reading to attend.

Instead the youths congregated in Nadder Road and police were called following reports of anti-social behaviour.

Officers moved the group away from the residential area and a large amount of alcohol was seized by police from underage drinkers, which included lager, cider and vodka.

Several young people were spoken to by police about their behaviour.

PCSO Aaron Heath said: “It was disappointing to see such a large number of young people in possession of alcohol in Tidworth and causing anti-social behaviour.

“This was an organised event and would have rapidly become more disorderly without early police intervention.

“Our local retailers were informed of the situation and were advised to be vigilant when selling alcohol, which they complied with, although much of the alcohol was brought into the area.

“Young people involved in underage drinking on our streets are reminded that this is an offence and action will be taken against those found doing so and those assisting them. This is also a timely reminder to venue management to ensure that those using their premises comply with legislation.”
