PUPILS at Rookwood’s Prep School were joined by a chicken, a rat, a chinchilla and a tortoise recently as they launched their fund-raising activity for The Dogs Trust with Bring a Pet to School Day.
Among the many feathered and furry animals sharing Rookwood’s grounds were a Chinese gecko, a corn snake, several guinea pigs…and two Shetland ponies – brought in by Finkley Down Farm.
Year 5 pupil Olivia Leonard brought her chicken to school.
Pupils plan to follow“Pet Day” with break-time sales of popcorn and hot chocolate as they try to beat their previous year’s donation to support the largest canine welfare charity in the UK.
Head of junior science, Mr Colin Heath, said: “Pet Day provides a fantastic opportunity for children who own animals to share the experience with those who are unable to have pets of their own.
“The pupils are absolutely delighted to be supporting The Dogs Trust again.”
