ELECTORS in Ludgershall could be forgiven for being confused today because the town’s polling station at the Memorial Hall is open for business even though there is no town or county elections taking place this year because of a lack of candidates.

The polling station is open for the use of electors who live in Perham Down ward where four candidates are contesting three seats available on Tidworth Town Council.

Tidworth councillor Mark Connolly, who was also elected unopposed to his Wiltshire Council seat, said he realised it could cause some head scratching and that the situation is not ideal.

He said: “As soon as I found out Chris Williams was also uncontested in Ludgershall, I asked if Perham voters could go to Wylye Road. In Tidworth. “Whilst they understood the sentiment of reducing cost etc. they said that they had tried making changes late in the day before and had problems as a result. “The Polling Cards state where the voting will take place and that is why I have also put on my Facebook page as well as the e-mail list that they actually vote in Ludgershall -which they would if the unitary seat was contested.”
