A BARNARDO’S youth project in Andover and Test Valley teamed up with The Hip-Hop Shakespeare Company at a workshop on Monday. The event focused around hiphop music and how it relates to Shakespeare, society and worldwide issues. This workshop is part of a two-week summer programme of activities that Barnardo’s are running. The charity’s Phase 2 project works with young people aged 16-18, who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), and the hip-hop Shakespeare lyric-writing and performance workshop. The Hip-Hop Shakespeare Company (HSC), is led by Mercury Music Award nominee Ben Chijioke, better known as British rapper Ty, and encourages young people to challenge their preconceptions about Shakespeare and hiphop. Kay Tarry, Barnardo’s children’s service manager, said: “The hip-hop Shakespeare lyricwriting and performance workshop is a fun and innovative way to aid young people’s ability to express themselves through poetry and music.”
