3:30pm Saturday 24th August 2013 in News
CREATIVE Clatford Valley villagers entered their best blooms and artistic arrangements at the annual produce show. Saturday saw Upper Clatford Village Hall transformed with greenery for the special show. It is held every year by the Clatford Valley Gardening Club and judges the best vegetables, flower arrangements, baked goods and other items produced in the village. Test Valley mayor Janet Whiteley and her husband Neville visited the show, while many others braved the rain for the event. Total entries were up on last year. Vegetables were well up and equalled the record year of 2010, with fruit also up 35 per cent on a poor year last year. The flower section was down 20 per cent mainly due to the roses being past their first flush and the dahlias being late flowering this year. The full results for all sections were as follows: l The Pouncy Cup for Vegetables – 1st James Hocking, 2nd Brian Stuart, 3rd Peter Heslop l The Stuart Bowl for Fruit – 1st Carla Benedict, 2nd Sue Stuart, 3rd Helen Stuart. l The Roy Waters Cup for Flowers – 1st equal Lesley Heslop and Carolyn Hallinger, 3rd Jenny Llewellyn. l The Edmunds Challenge Cup for Produce – 1st Lesley Heslop, 2nd Gill Memmott, 3rd Jos Hocking. l The Heslop Children’s Cup – 1st Alexander Baldwin, 2nd Korenza Hocking l The overall winner for themost points in all sections were 1st (and the winner of the Harbord Silver Challenge Cup) – Lesley Heslop, 2nd James Hocking, 3rd Brian Stuart.
