Swimming sensation Laurie, 85, raises over £500 for heart charity

AN 85-year-old Andover resident who has suffered three heart attacks has raised £502 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) with a swimathon.
Laurie Broadhurst, who lives at Westfield Court, has been raising money for charities in the pool for 40 years.
Since 2007 he has been raising money for the BHF, and his latest outing saw him swimming 35 lengths of the pool to reach his target.
Regular swimmer Mr Broadhurst did a yearly swim for the charity from 2007 until 2011, he was unable to swim in 2012 due to an operation on his spine, but resumed his fundraising this year.
In total Laurie has now raised £5,317 for BHF much to the delight of Brian Page, MBE chairman of BHF Andover and district branch.
“I applaud Laurie for his outstanding commitment,” said Brian.
“He is brilliant, such a fantastic chap.
He certainly helps us and has raiseda lot of money for the charity.”
Mr Page, who has been a chairman at the charityfor 32years, has seen £478,000 raised during that time.
