Markets serve up feast for the senses
9:00am Saturday 5th October 2013 in News
A BUMPER week of markets and events will take place in Andover’s town centre from Wednesday 9 to Sunday 13 October.
An authentic Italian market will be coming to town for five days from Wednesday.
Saturday 12 October plays host to a double-bill with the Italian market alongside the regular Saturday street market.
Sunday 13 October will provide a triple bill of markets.
Alongside the Italian Market, the High Street will see the return of the local Retailers’ Out and About initiative, with 30 local independent retailers taking to the High Street with everything from jewellery to homeware, cupcakes to wine, and food.
At the same time, in the Upper Mall in the Chantry Centre, Bert & Gert’s Vintage Market is back with everything from shabby chic to vintage value and lots of gift ideas in between.
All these events run from 10am to 4pm.
The High Street will also resound during the day on Sunday with the sounds of a traditional barrel organ.
More pomp and circumstance will be provided on Saturday 12 October by the band of the Corps of Royal Engineers; playing to mark the Homecoming Parade of the 22 Engineer Regiment.
The leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Ian Carr said: “As part of the Andover Summit in 2012 the High Street events working group was formed to bring a programme of events to the town, and in so doing encourage a more vibrant and bustling feel for the High Street.
“The group has consistently delivered a series of top quality events, and this autumnal extravaganza should be a real show stopper.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to banish the autumn blues and come and experience the atmosphere and excitement, supporting your local town and traders at the same time.
“It is sure to be a feast for all the senses and not just the taste buds.”
