THE newly-built Garrison Theatre Tidworth hosted 500 people for a Proms Band Concert on Thursday, 28 November.

Colonel James Denny MBE Commander Tidworth, Netheravon and Bulford Garrison welcomed everyone to the new theatre and explained that they were making history as this was the first public event to be held in the new theatre.

The first public event in the original Garrison Theatre was held on 14 June 1909.

The opening production was Bluebeard by The Charles Constant’s Company.

The theatre was so packed the curtain was half an hour late going up.

Herbert Pickernell was then manager of the theatre and Colonel Denny thanked Tony Pickernell for organising the concert before thanking The Band of the Prince of Wales’s Division for kindly giving their services.

The band performed a variety of music from marches to well-known musicals before ending the evening with sea shanties.
