WORK has started on a new footpath in Pilgrims Way after calls from residents for its construction.

Local councillor Tim Rolt and Peter Mathers of the residents’ association for Pilgrims way and River Way visited the site of the new path, a project they have been working hard to kick-start.

Councillor Rolt said: “The contractor is now on site and the estimate is that the works will take around three to four weeks, so they should hopefully be finished by Christmas.

“This has been welcomed by residents, as it means they no longer have to walk on the road dodging cars. Peter Mather, who is the residents’ association chairman, works tirelessly to improve the estate here for its residents.

“As part of my Hampshire county councillor responsibility for highways issues in Andover North, I have been helping to push for this scheme on behalf of local Pilgrims’ Way residents since I was elected as a UKIP County Councillor in May.

“I am sure they will be pleased that it is finally happening at last.

Finally, I would like to thank all who have also done their bit for this much-needed work – Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire County Council officials, local residents and borough councillors.”
