WHITCHURCH Town Council has lost another councillor after Allan Vaughan confirmed his resignation at a full council meeting on Monday.

Councillor Vaughan highlighted growing work commitments and policy disagreements as the main reasons behind his shock resignation.

Councillors expressed their disappointment at the news, but Cllr Vaughan assured them he would not be changing his mind.

Cllr Vaughan said: “I have been struggling with other commitments at work where we are being asked to do more with less people.

“I am also concerned that I do not agree on matters of policy. I would like to pay tribute to my fellow councillors and the clerks, who do a fantastic job.”

Cllr Vaughan joins Jackie Day, Paul McGarvey and Linda Thomas to resign from the town council in recent months and an election will be held on 12 December at the Gill Nethercott Centre to fill three vacancies.

Cllr John Clark, chairman of the town council and mayor of Whitchurch said: “I am only too aware of the amount of time and effort that councillors put in to try to make a difference in Whitchurch.

“I would like to thank Allan for his dedication and commitment to this council, particularly in his role as chairman of the policy and resources committee. His expertise will be greatly missed.”

lThe election poll will be held at the Gill Nethercott Centre from 7am until 10pm on 12 December. Candidates are Maurice Clifford Berridge, John Phillip Buckley, David John George, Andy Jordon and Steve Neilson.
