A BOOK about the archaeology of Andover has been launched in the town.

The Archaeology of Andover, by Andover History and Archaeology Society, was given a boost last week when television’s Julian Richards – from Meet the Ancestors – visited the museum to attend the event. The presenter has written the book’s forward.

The launch was attended by the Mayor of Test Valley Janet Whiteley and by some of the people who worked alongside Max and Peggy Dacre to excavate key sites and preserve Andover’s history.

The society commissioned Dr Nick Stoodley, honorary research fellow at the University of Winchester, to produce a report of the largely unsorted Max Dacre papers and artefacts that have lain in store at Chilcomb House, Winchester, for many years.

The book is published by Threshold Press and is available at Waterstones and the Andover Museum, priced at £20.
