MEMBERS at Test Valley Golf Club near Overton and Whitchurch made a donation of £14,000 to Ark Cancer Centre Charity after a year of fundraising.

Club Captains Dave Brown, Dawn Nicholson and Shad Stenning were determined to raise as much as they could towards the £5 million target that the Ark Cancer Centre Charity has set.

The funds raised by the Charity will ensure a range of support services and complementary therapies are available alongside chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments in one unique local cancer centre.

A number of events took place at the Test Valley Golf Club throughout the year, including golfing events and challenges, a fashion show and a 200-mile bike ride.

The year also saw Test Valley celebrate its 21st birthday and part of the celebrations included a raffle, raising £1,350.

The ladies at the Test Valley Golf Club held a fashion show in September with the support of Phase Eight Basingstoke and Clarins cosmetics.

Dawn Nicholson, ladies captain of the club, said “The evening was a great success and forms just part of a series of activities undertaken this year in support of the Ark Cancer Centre Charity, which is an incredibly worthwhile cause that will potentially benefit every family in the area. Tickets sold out weeks before the show took place.”

The club captains also managed to persuade a number of golfers to put together a calendar of their own for 2014; it featured players in ‘interesting’ positions around the golf course with very little to cover them up.

Vickie Randall, Charity Manager said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have had such great support over the last year from the golfers at Test Valley.

“The events have been enormous fun with some challenges along the way but their determination has paid off with such a huge donation.

We are very grateful for the support of our local community.”
