AN Andover family bakery has found fame after featuring on a television programme.

Burbidge’s Bakery, in Weyhill Road, will appear on ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery on Thursday, 16 January.

Film crews spent three days at the familyowned bakery, which is owned by the fourth generation of bakers Steve Burbidge, and where Steve’s 16-year-old daughter Fletcher also works.

Steve and his wife Becky were filmed baking their array of bread, pastries and cakes, before Steve took his chocolate Danish pastry to Gloucestershire to be judged by expert chefs Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell.

Dad Steve, who has worked in the family business since leaving school at the age of 16, said: “We do some really nice things here and the chocolate Danish is one of the nicest things and it’s my favourite.

“I trained in Denmark and so I know that they are the best and that’s what the female judge said – she said it was the best Danish pastry she had ever experienced.

“That was the best thing that could have happened.”

He added: “It was a fantastic day, they were really professional people.

“It’s really good for us.

“It’s great as it’s not every day a shop in the town gets on ITV day time television with 4million viewers.”

Beginning last Monday, over six weeks Britain’s Best Bakery reveals the heart-warming stories of the bakers across the country.
