PC Steve Rogerson, Countrywatch officer for the Basingstoke rural area including Overton, is celebrating after captaining the force’s Movember team to raise more than £4,000.

The Hampshire Constabulary Mo-Bros consisted of a team of officers from all across the county that spent the month fundraising while growing and sporting moustaches.

November marked the first official Hampshire Constabulary Movember team for those wishing to grow some facial fluff for the research and ongoing treatment of testicular and prostate cancer.

The team was in a network called Heroes in Uniform, which consisted of 88 teams from across the UK, all of whom wore a uniform in their daily job.

The Hampshire Constabulary Mo-Bros raised £4,285, which made them the top team in their network, beating the team in second place by more than £1,000.

PC Rogerson said: “The target for this year was £2,500 and everyone that took part has done extremely well to get us to our final figure of well over £4,000.

“It is always a difficult time of year to get sponsorship and there are more people taking part in Movember every year, so we are all very grateful to everybody that donated.

“I’m normally a bearded chap so having a mo doesn’t cause me any issues. However I know that a lot of the guys weren’t used to it and had serious itching issues after only a couple of days.

“Then there were those more fair-haired types that got laughed at because you couldn’t actually tell they were growing a mo.

“There were also the others who aren’t used to eating while sporting facial fluff, that ended up with bits of dinner still stuck on their top lips!”

The team were issued wristbands and badges by the people at Movember HQ, and they said that it was good to be able to talk to members of the public about the great cause, while still going about their daily job role.
