DETAILS of a charity concert to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War in Whitchurch have been announced.

The Mayor of Whitchurch Charity Concert will take place on Saturday, 29 March, at 7pm in the sports hall at Testbourne Community School.

The entertainment will be provided by the Military Wives Choir from Middle Wallop, with support from Bela Voce Choir from Testbourne Community School.

Mayor Cllr John Clark, pictured, said: “The Mayor’s Charity Concert is the mayoress Rosemary Crumplin’s idea that came to mind in the middle of last year as she thought, and I fully support, that it would be very fitting to recognise the centenary year.

“Once she managed to book the Military Wives Choir from Middle Wallop, Rosemary has set about organising the whole concert and the theme will be very much a military one.

“During this year as mayor and mayoress we have made it a priority to be very active in visiting Whitchurch businesses, schools and general community projects to see if there is any help that the town council can offer in any way.

“One thing that we picked up on is that the youngsters in Whitchurch need a number of things either at school or at the Scouts and youth clubs for example.

“The aim of the concert is to raise money for specific projects to re-invest in the young through the various organisations.”

Tickets cost £10 each and are available from Newbury Building Society or by calling 07570 962112.
