HAMPSHIRE’S Police and Crime Commissioner has reassured residents that combating domestic violence remains a top priority.
Commenting on the rise of domestic abuse reported in the county, according to the Office for National Statistics, Simon Hayes said: "I hope that the rise in reports of domestic violence in Hampshire and Isle of Wight is the result of greater public confidence in an experience of any type of abuse being managed sensitively and the victim's welfare is prioritised by the police.
"Putting victims and witnesses at the heart of criminal justice system is a priority within my Police and Crime Plan and, as a result, the constabulary's approach to policing in Hampshire.
“As part of the delivery of the Commissioning Plan, we will be working with partners with experience significant in this area to ensure that we have better strategies in place to support the victims of abuse and prosecute and reform offenders."
