MORE than 60 students from Year 10 and 11 GCSE drama groups at The Clere’s drama department presented Arabian Nights, adapted for theatre by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
On Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 February, over 300 children from local primary schools attended special matinee performances.
The school welcomed children from Ecchinswell, Hurstbourne Tarrant, Kingsclere, St Martin’s, The Priory, Vernham Dean and Woolton Hill junior schools.
“We wanted to show the younger children what a high standard can be achieved by students just a few years older than themselves.” said Tamara Warner, curriculum leader of drama.
Evening performances also took place on Tuesday 25, Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 February.
The show featured a giant puppet bird, shadow and silhouette puppetry, physical theatre, ribbon dancing and fight choreography and brought to magical life the ancient moral tales of Sharazad the Queen, who changed the king’s mind through her stories.
