TEST Valley Borough Council says that a £30,000 programme of works should provide improvements to Vigo Road Recreation Ground in Andover.

Work has now started to enhance the recreation space, with contractors now on site, and they have begun with the installation of a new path.

Following a public consultation in the autumn, the scheme of works now being carried out includes the installation of a new path creating a direct line of access across the park to a pedestrian entrance from the Vigo Roundabout.

A hard landscaped performance space will be installed and linked to the existing path network.

The general infrastructure of the park will be refreshed and updated, to include new fencing near Vigo Roundabout, improved planting, seating, bins and interpretation signage.

Community and leisure p o r t f o l i o holder Cllr Tony Ward said: “Vigo Park is a valuable recreational resource in Andover and holds a number of large community events throughout the year.

“I am delighted that the facilities will be enhanced in time for this year’s calendar of events, benefitting the whole community.”

To limit the impact of machinery on the wet ground, the contractors will be tracking up and down the route of the new path wherever possible, and should not impact on pedestrian access through the park.

It is anticipated that the work will be finished by the end of April, but this depends on weather conditions.
