SOUTHERN Water is reminding customers to be aware of bogus callers following the wettest winter on record.

As groundwater levels and flooding across the region starts to recede, Southern Water are continuing to carry out a range of flood related work.

Unfortunately though, there are a small few who may seek to take advantage of this situation and the water company are asking the public to remain vigilant.

Geoff Loader, Southern Water’s director of communications said: “Our teams have been out in force to help reduce the risk of flooding in communities across the region during what has been the wettest winter on record.

“However, now the sun has come out, so too do unscrupulous people who impersonate Southern Water staff in order to deceive and steal.

“If you are in any doubt when someone calls at your home you should ask for their identification card. If in doubt, keep them out and telephone Southern Water on 0845 278 0845 to confirm their identity.

“Southern Water staff, as well as contractors working for the company, are aware of this procedure and are happy to wait while customers check their identification.”
