Brother has inspired Emma's capital run

First published in News

A FIRST time London Marathon runner is tackling the challenging run round the capital inspired by her disabled brother.

Emma Wreford’s brother Robert Byrne lives at a residential care home run by the Enham Trust in Enham Alamein.

Emma said: “Robert moved to Enham last March and it has been a really positive experience for him and our family.

“When I heard that Enham had spaces for the London Marathon I wanted to take up the challenge so I could raise as much money as possible for a charity that is really special to our family.”

Emma confesses that she hadn’t run since being at school before beginning her training.

She added: “I started my training as a complete beginner but I am 5 months in now and the training is going well, I am not looking for a set time on the day but just to finish.”

It will be Robert who keeps her going on the day. Emma says despite his special needs, Robert loves life and with lots of planning and support from the charity, now gets involved in activities from drama to cooking.

He’s also an aspiring DJ, presenting once a week on Radio Enham.

Emma continued: “Robert will definitely be in my thoughts on the day and if I hit the wall I will be thinking of how the money I am raising will be helping Robert and his friends.”
