THE closing date for student placement opportunities at Whitchurch Silk Mill is fast approaching.

Whitchurch Silk Mill, The Edge Project and the Hampshire Museums and Galleries Trust have teamed up to offer a number of placements in 2014 with applications needed by 31 March.

The Edge is a youth project aimed at engaging young people between the ages of 14-24 in cultural and heritage environments.

The opportunities on offer at the Mill are a weaving placement and a museum’s collections placement. The weaving placement will involve learning to operate the Victorian machinery and the craft of threading up, hand twisting and other weaving techniques.

The museum collections placement will see the candidate learn about the history of weaving and the process of silk manufacture and will include taking part in guided tours and enhancing visitors’ experiences.

For an application pack and more information email zoe.viney@whitchurchsilkmil l.org.uk. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews on Friday, 11 April.
