THE immense rainfall in the past weeks has had little effect on the village of Kimpton, with only flooding along footpaths and thankfully almost none along any roads.

The only noteworthy place that has been flooded was Shipton corner, which has been flooded due to debris clogging up the drain. It has been suggested that a mini-digger was to be hired to dig the ditch that the water drains wider and deeper but Hampshire Highways have been contacted and will sort out the problem in due course.

It has been noticed that Southern Water, who have provided pumps in the villages to remove excess water, has been looking at the pump located in Kimpton, as the pump along the way in Monxton broke down which had a knock-on effect to further villages.

Trees: The wind had a serious effect on villages removing fences and knocking over several trees. One was knocked down just outside Kimpton and blocked one of its exit routes. It was removed the same day by the landowner from whose land the tree had fell from.

Mobile library service: Sadly, due to cutbacks, Hampshire County Council has proposed to cut off Kimpton from the mobile library service. Many parishioners have considered this news appalling.

Road signs: Additional road signs are to be requested from Test Valley Borough Council and are to be placed by the tree at the end of Cow Lane to provide viewing from either way along the road.

Village green: A local contractor has cleared the debris from behind the thatched bus shelter on the village green, and it was noted that the village green was waterlogged.

Ludgershall to Andover railway: Kimpton Parish Council is looking forward to the prospect of a steam railway service that may make regular journeys from Ludgershall to Andover and have deemed this as excellent news.
