A LONGPARISH man has succeeded in his campaign to honour the amateur diver who found the Tudor warship Mary Rose.

A bronze bust of military historian Alexander McKee has been unveiled in the museum built to house Mary Rose in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard.

Supporters say that without him the ship would still be under the Solent silt and almost certainly lost forever.

Retired Longparish journalist Henry Yelf, who dived with Mr McKee and led the fundraising campaign, said “We believe it is important to remind visitors to this world class museum that without Mac’s dogged determination it would not exist.”

The bust was unveiled at the museum by Mr McKee’s widow, Ilse.
